How to match it?

The choice of marble in the bathroom is associated to a new concept of elegance and luxury.

Even though today, more than ever, we can find on the market slabs of grés or prints on “marble effect” steel sheets, in different sizes and colours, which imitate it to perfection and which lend themselves to an easier and more versatile use than marble. They are certainly cheaper solutions and guarantee greater practicality in any environment, both on the floor and on the walls.

Real marble is also very resistant (but beware of stains…), always adds value to your home and can easily be combined with other materials and colours depending on the mood you want to create.

For this post, I have selected my 5 favourite combinations to give you the inspiration you need.

I recommend that you always start with a colour palette you like. That is light, dark, warm, cold or ton sur ton.

Mood 1:

Marble with another essence marble

A total marble look is very chic!

Just one tip: if you have chosen a marble-effect stoneware, look through the catalogues of the company… The images proposed give you the chance to discover new combinations that you might not have thought of.

Even a small bathroom can be covered in marble, so don’t worry!

There are no limits, neither for the use of dark nor light shades.

Distinguish the colour shades of the formats and decide whether to create tonal contrasts (e.g. cold shades with warm furniture) or to go along with them (e.g. warm shades with a warm furniture colour).

If you have chosen a light grey format (Calacatta or Carrara) with blue or grey shades, it is easy to opt for a light shade of colour on the walls which you can paint with blue or grey nuances. Alternating hot and cold in furniture is a strategy that always works.

A touch of warm metal, in lights or accessories, makes the look really beautiful!  Brass or copper-coloured taps, a washbasin unit with golden handles or mirrors with a golden border on the wall will give your marble tiles more depth and add a touch of eccentricity to your bathroom.

Mood 2: Marble & Colours

A combination that young people like is the mixing of marble with colour.

Creating contrasts generates nice effects. Marble with green, blue or orange tiles. Marble does not necessarily have to be laid everywhere! You can easily break it up and match the marble tiles on the walls of your bathroom with a coloured ceramic on the floor, or with a tint on the walls.

The beauty of marble is that it is a natural material that can be combined with many other materials. The effect is always glamorous.

Coloured sanitary ware is also back in vogue lately… The beautiful pastel tones of Ceramica Cielo or the bright nuances of Galassia ceramics…

Mood 3: Marble & Wallpaper

Wallpaper in the bathroom has become very popular lately. Obviously, you will need to use a suitable wallpaper, either vitrified or vinyl, and apply a layer of transparent resin if you want to put it in the shower.

Be careful, however, not to create an overloaded bathroom. Only one of the two should prevail over the other. So, it is better if the tones remain light, without overlapping each other. Or combine a neutral-coloured marble with a slightly more striking print.

However, make sure that the most decorated element (the paper or the marble) is in the accent points of the bathroom, so as to highlight a freestanding bathtub or a designer shower.

Mood 4: Marble & Wood

The combination of marble and wood is very refined. The wood adds warmth and softens the cold effect of the slabs.

The resulting mood is truly timeless! I often use this mix, both for classic contemporary settings and for more modern projects.

If you decide for a wooden floor, the effect is even more elegant. The tombstone effect is immediately averted and the whole thing works very harmoniously even with just one type of marble.

For the washbasin you can dare with another marble essence or with a neutral colour.

Mood 5: “Open stain”

Veined marble, when used as a backdrop for particular elements such as egg-shaped bathtubs or freestanding washbasins, can be chosen to create compositions with a decorative character, such as “open stain” compositions.

The open stain requires a selection of slabs from the same block, so that, once opened and sawn, they present a mirror-like, symmetrical pattern. This type of solution requires special work in laying and marking the slabs so that the veins match.

This is much easier with stoneware, as it is a printed material.

As you can see, this type of decoration is particularly suitable for highlighting a shower, bathtub or background wall.

Thanks to its versatility, marble in the bathroom can range from monochrome to minimalist, from ornamental to contemporary, creating a sense of elegance and luxury and giving any bathroom a very sophisticated look.
